Winter? How long did she plan to keep me here?

"Here's some more medicine," Granny said,

squirting a long green strand across my back. The

pricks of electricity raced across my shoulders.

"Rub it all in. That's a good boy."

The smell made me gag. It was worse than

rotting garbage. Worse than my sister Meg's healthfood

drinks. I held my nose and breathed through

my mouth.

With my other hand I rubbed the green gunk

into my skin as fast as I could.

"Yuck, yuck, yuck," I mumbled as I spread the

green slime across my skin. "I'm going to throw

up."

Granny waited until I'd smeared that disgusting

ointment all over my body, then she led me to my

bed.

"I want you to take a nap," she ordered, flipping

back the covers. "It's important that you get enough rest."

I climbed into bed. Then she tucked the covers

under my chin and ruffled my gooey hair with her

gloved hand. "Sleep is just the thing for you, young

man," she cooed. "You've had a very hard afternoon."

Hard afternoon? I had just had the worst afternoon

of my entire life!
